Even if you think you are not familiar with Monument Valley, you have probably seen it featured in countless commercials and movies. The distinct western landscape has been the setting for Hollywood productions for years.

Monument Valley is in Navajo Nation and spans Utah and Arizona. The Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park features a 17-mile loop road that will take you past majestic scenery.

You can take your own vehicle or take a guided tour. We had a wonderful Navajo guide who taught us about the Navajo culture as well as taking many memorable photos of our group. I definitely recommend getting a guide.

We made several stops where we could get out, walk around and snap photos. One was John Ford’s Point, where the famous director would get inspiration for his Westerns. He filmed many movies, including “Stagecoach,” in Monument Valley.

A short drive will take you to the place where Forrest Gump ended his cross country run, known as Forrest Gump Hill.
