Exploring Portland, Oregon

Oregon was on my list of places to visit for a long time because of all its natural beauty, and you can find many places to enjoy the outdoors without ever leaving the city of Portland.

If you are lucky and time your visit right, you will see the beautiful cherry blossoms in full bloom. They typically bloom in March or April, but it can vary.

Along with cherry blossoms, Washington Park offers the Oregon Zoo, International Rose Test Garden, Portland Japanese Gardens and much more. There is something to see year-round.

Portland is also home to Forest Park, one of the largest urban forests in the United States that offers more than 80 miles of trails. It’s amazing you can experience a true Northwest forest while still in the city limits.

While in Portland, be sure to check out Powell’s Books, the world’s largest independent bookstore. It takes up an entire city block and has every kind of new and used book you can imagine.

Another can’t-miss spot is Voodoo Doughnut. They have very creative flavors as well as classics. Also check out Blue Star Donuts for yummy treats!

The Tom McCall Waterfront Park along the Willamette River is a nice place for a stroll. It’s also where you will get a good view of the Portland White Stag sign pictured above.
