Snowshoeing at Chickadee Ridge
I visited Lake Tahoe for the first time in February and coming from Texas was excited for the chance to try some winter activities.
I haven’t skied in many years (and wasn’t very good), but I was interested in giving snowshoeing a try.
I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort in Incline Village, Nevada, on the north shore of Lake Tahoe and they offer an amazing adventure program with complimentary activities for guests.
I decided to take advantage of several, including two snowshoeing adventures to Chickadee Ridge.
My first outing was a morning snowshoe hike. It turned out, I was the only one who had registered, so I had a private tour.
Located in the Mount Rose Wilderness, Chickadee Ridge is a 1.7-mile trail out and back with 270 feet of elevation gain. We got our snowshoes on and set out in the snow. It was a little awkward at first, but I got used to it fairly quickly.
Chickadee Ridge gets its name from the chickadees that live there. We took birdseed with us and the chickadees ate it right out of our hands!
The climb to the top of the ridge was challenging, but the view of Lake Tahoe made it worth it.
A few days later, I headed out on another snowshoeing adventure. This time it was Moonlight in the Meadows, where we snowshoed at Chickadee Ridge under the stars.
We had a beautiful night with clear skies and it was a magical experience. I was snowshoeing like a champ by then!
