Things to do near Little Rock

I took a road trip during the summer to visit a friend in Conway, Arkansas, and we enjoyed the natural beauty as well as city offerings of the Little Rock area.

The William J. Clinton Presidential Library & Museum is in Little Rock and features replicas of the Oval Office and Cabinet Room from his time in office.

You can also see many documents, photographs and artifacts from the era. It is well worth a visit.

Another cool place to see in Little Rock is Villa Marre, the house used for the exterior shots for the TV show “Designing Women.”

For a bite to eat, head to The Root Cafe, which features food from small farms and producers in Arkansas. Afterward, grab some yummy ice cream at Loblolly Creamery.

About an hour northwest of Little Rock in Morrilton is Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas’ first state park.

We hiked 2.5 miles with 500 feet of elevation gain on the Cedar Creek Trail to this waterfall. There are lots of rocky areas to climb over and through, and we climbed up and sat behind the waterfall to relax and listen to the water flow for a while.

After, we had lunch at Mather Lodge and visited Petit Jean’s gravesite.
