Centennial Olympic Park

Atlanta has a nice downtown entertainment district where a lot of museums and attractions are located and within walking distance of one another. Among them, you will find Centennial Olympic Park, a greenspace that includes the Fountain of Rings and is Georgia’s lasting legacy of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games.

Georgia Aquarium

I had heard how awesome the Georgia Aquarium was, so I wanted to make sure to check it out. I loved watching these gigantic whale sharks swim right by us. They also have a fun dolphin show you should not miss!

World of Coca-Cola

Visit the World of Coca-Cola to learn all about the history of the iconic beverage brand. You can sample different drinks Coca-Cola makes from all around the world. Some were quite tasty and some were rather odd.

College Football Hall of Fame

Another fun place to visit downtown is the College Football Hall of Fame. You register with your favorite team when you enter and they have a lot of cool interactive exhibits to participate in, including this one for College GameDay.

CNN

We also went on the CNN Studio Tour and saw the CNN newsroom, which I found particularly interesting as a journalist.

Where to eat

If you’re hungry after all of those activities, head to The Varsity, where they’re famous for asking, “What’ll ya have?’’ The world’s largest drive-in restaurant isn’t the place to go for a gourmet meal, but it is an Atlanta institution that’s been around since 1928 serving chili dogs, burgers, onion rings, fried pies and more. Plus, they give you these fun hats! Indoor seating is also available.

For made-from-scratch Southern food, head to Mary Mac’s Tea Room, serving Atlanta since 1945. Mary Mac’s serves delicious food and has welcomed many famous visitors over the years. It has officially been named “Atlanta’s Dining Room.”

The Battery Atlanta is adjacent to the Atlanta Braves’ baseball stadium and has a good number of dining options that are open year round. It was very close to our hotel, so we went over there for dinner a few evenings and enjoyed the atmosphere. It would be fun to attend a game there I’m sure!

Fall was a good time to visit Atlanta. The weather was mild and the trees were starting to turn. Have you visited Atlanta. What do you recommend doing there?
