Christmas in New York City

Christmas in New York City is magical and something everyone should experience at least once if given the opportunity. The city is adorned with lights and decorations everywhere you look. It will definitely get you in the holiday spirit! This blog is specific to the holiday season, but also check out my post on my favorite things to do in NYC year-round.

Rockefeller Center

No trip to NYC at Christmas would be complete without seeing the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree all lit up. It can get very crowded though, so I definitely recommend checking it out on a weekday if at all possible.

There is also an amazing light show set to Christmas music on the building opposite where the tree is that you won’t want to miss.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular

While you are at Rockefeller Center, don’t miss the famous Radio City Christmas Spectacular starring the Rockettes. Another great Christmas show to see is the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center.

Central Park

Central Park is wonderful to walk around any time of year. Around Christmas, you can ice skate in the park and if you are there in early December, you might catch some late Autumn glory still hanging on like we did.

Dyker Heights

Another fun activity we did was the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights bus tour. The bus picks you up in Manhattan and takes you to a neighborhood in Brooklyn where the residents go all out decorating their houses for the holidays. I have never seen homes with so many Christmas lights before!

Bryant Park

Bryant Park is transformed into a Winter Village with an ice skating rink, giant Christmas tree, holiday market and rinkside dining. If you are looking for additional unique shopping, check out the holiday markets in Central Park and Grand Central Terminal.

Macy’s

Macy’s on 34th Street in Herald Square is also fun to visit during the holiday season. They always do a fabulous job with their themed window displays and also have a great Santaland exhibit, where you can get your photo made with Santa. And, of course, there is plenty of shopping for everyone on your list.

Wall Street

All around the city, you will find huge Christmas trees and oversized ornaments on display. We saw the tree below while checking out the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street.
