Mykonos sailing and Delos ruins

No trip to Greece is complete without visiting some of the islands. After spending a few days in Athens, we took a high-speed ferry to Mykonos. The ferry was comfortable and the three-hour journey went by quickly.

Upon arriving in Mykonos, we checked in to Penelope Village hotel and made the short walk down to Kalo Livadi Beach.

The beach was calm and crystal clear, although the water was pretty chilly for a Texas girl. I had to get in though and enjoyed the beautiful water and surroundings. After swimming and relaxing on the beach, we had lunch at the Lohan Beach House, where I feasted on a traditional Greek salad.

After lunch, a few of us headed out on a catamaran sail and snorkel with Nostos Mykonos. They picked us up from our hotel and we left from Scorpions Beach.

We sailed toward Paradise Beach and saw the yachts of Jerry Jones and Tommy Hilfiger off the coast of Mykonos.

We stopped at a spot to snorkel and kayak. I snorkeled in a small cave and saw a few fish. The water was beautiful, but there weren’t many colorful fish. The crew cooked dinner for us to enjoy on the catamaran before we headed back..

The next day we took a ferry to Delos and did a walking tour of the ruins. Delos is a very important mythological and historical site and said to be the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis.

Delos is thought to have been inhabited since the 3rd millennium BC. Only a few people still live there today, but many cats roam the ruins.

You can see the remains of the House of Dionysus, which was a lavish villa.

The Terrace of the Lions is another landmark on Delos. The Lions are roaring to guard the sanctuaries on the island.

I loved seeing all of the cats on the island!

When we got back to Mykonos, we toured Mykonos Town and saw the famous Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Built around 1700, it honors Saint Nicholas, the protector of sailors and fisherman.

The windmills are another landmark to check out in town. Most of them are in front of the Little Venice neighborhood and a short walk from town.

Walking around Mykonos Town is lovely with all of the crisp white buildings, blue accents and bright flowers. There are plenty of shops and restaurants to stop in or just enjoy walking the cobblestone streets and taking in the views.

Mykonos is fun to explore whether getting lost in the maze of streets or taking a stroll by the water.
