Naxos beach time in the Greek Islands

Our next step on our adventure through the Greek Islands took us to the beautiful island of Naxos. Naxos is just a short ride on the high-speed ferry from Mykonos and less crowded than Mykonos and Santorini.

Upon arriving, you will see the Portara or Temple of Apollo, a massive marble doorway. There were plans in the 6th century BC for the temple to be the most glorious building in all of Greece, but it was never completed.

Take the short walk up to the Portara to see it up close and for spectacular views back toward the city.

Also check out the Naxos Castle, which is the old Venetian Town of Naxos and dates to the 1200’s. Founded by the Venetian noble Marco Sanudo, you can walk up to the castle from the town of Chora.

After walking around Chora, we headed to Platia in Galini Village for a Greek cooking class and lunch.

We made stuffed peppers and tomatoes, zucchini fritters, meatballs and tzatziki. We enjoyed it all with a fresh Greek salad for a delicious afternoon meal.

They also gave us a tour of the farm where all of the fruits and vegetables are grown. It was quite hot on the farm, so be prepared with water and hats when you go out there.

Another interesting place to visit is the Eggares Olive Press where you can see how olive oil has been produced over the years and sample different olive oils and olive snacks.

We stayed for two nights as Kavuras Village hotel, which had lovely grounds and an amazing view down to the beach for breakfast.

The hotel offered a free shuttle down to a stunning beach, Agios Prokopios. The water was unbelievable beautiful, although pretty chilly. It looked straight out of a postcard and was one of the prettiest beaches I have seen!

Beach chairs and umbrellas were available to rent for very reasonable prices and restaurants were a short walk down the beach. I loved relaxing and spending time here! It is clothing optional, so don’t be surprised if you see some people swimming nude.

We stayed long enough to watch the sunset before heading over toward the restaurants to get some dinner.

We enjoyed dinner at Macao and then walked down to Art Cafe for live Greek music and dancing! Opa!
