Top things to do in Kansas City
Arrowhead Stadium
Our top motivation for visiting Kansas City was to attend a Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium. It was our first trip to Kansas City, so we wanted to make the most of our time there and see what else the city had to offer.
We had a great time at the football game and saw the Chiefs beat the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs went on to win the Super Bowl in February with a win over the San Francisco 49ers. Kauffman Stadium, home to MLB’s Royals, is conveniently located next door to Arrowhead if you are in KC during baseball season.
Downtown Kansas City was lit up in red lights the night we attended the game to celebrate the Chiefs’ win. We headed to Q39 to try some famous Kansas City BBQ. We enjoyed it, but it’s hard to top some of the amazing BBQ we get at home in Texas.
World War I Museum
We had Monday to explore the city after the game on Sunday. Unfortunately, many of the museums were closed on Mondays. The National World War I Museum is a popular attraction but was not open that day, so I would recommend making sure you are going to be in town on a day other than Monday if you want to visit some of the museums in Kansas City.
We were able to visit the area around the Liberty Memorial Tower, which offers sweeping views of downtown Kansas City.
Hallmark
Kansas City is home to Hallmark and you can visit the Hallmark Visitor Center to learn about the company’s history and see exhibits of products from over the years.
Union Station
Union Station is a beautiful building both inside and out. It is worth checking out and you can catch the KC Streetcar there to travel around downtown for free.
City of Fountains
Kansas City is known as the City of Fountains for its more than 200 fountains like this one in Country Club Plaza, a popular shopping and dining area.
Missouri River
We took a walk on the Town of Kansas Bridge to see the Missouri River, the longest river in North America.
Power & Light District
The Kansas City Power & Light District is a popular area home to Kansas City Live! and many restaurants, bars and night spots.
