Tubing and camping in New Braunfels

Once it gets hot out in Texas, a great way to cool off is by going tubing in New Braunfels. The Guadalupe River and Comal River are both popular spots in the Hill Country.

The last two years for Memorial Day weekend, I have gone with friends down to New Braunfels and camped at Cap’s Crossing right on the Guadalupe River. They also offer cabins and RV hookups.

We have have rented the tubes right there and spent around four hours floating down the river each time. Once you reach the designated end, a shuttle will take you back to the campsite.

It’s a lot of fun to relax on the river, cool off and enjoy the scenery. There can be some places where you have to get out and walk if the river is too low.

We took a break at these cool rock formations on the side of the river.

Canyon Lake is nearby and also the Canyon Lake Gorge, formed in 2002 when more than 34 inches of rain fell in one week. The Gorge is a fun place to hike, see fossils and learn about geology.

Also in the area are Schlitterbahn waterpark, the Cliff Carver alpine coaster and Gruene Hall for live music.

And no Texas road trip is complete without a stop at Buc-ees!
