Exploring Niagara Falls and Buffalo

I had the opportunity to visit Buffalo, New York, for a work trip and enjoyed checking out the city and visiting nearby Niagara Falls. Summer is a great time to be in Western New York.

It’s less than a 30-minute drive from Buffalo to Niagara Falls State Park. There, you can hike, check out the Cave of the Winds and of course take a tour on the Maid of the Mist.

On the Maid of the Mist, you will get up close to all three of the waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls - American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Horseshoe Falls.

Be sure to wear the poncho they provide because you will get very wet from the waterfall spray! It’s exhilarating to get up close to the majestic, roaring waterfalls.

You can get great views from Goat Island and see rainbows from all the mist in the air.

Attending a Buffalo Bisons minor-league baseball game is another fun outing. The Bisons are the Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays and play at Sahlen Field, which has the highest seating capacity of any Triple-A ballpark in the United States. Also check out a Buffalo Sabres or Buffalo Bills game during their seasons.

Check out Buffalo City Hall, an Art Deco gem in downtown with magnificent murals and an observation deck with views of the city and Lake Erie.

You can also learn about the Erie Canal at Canalside and visit Buffalo Naval Park to see old military vessels.

For Buffalo wings and brews, a few places to check out are Union Pub, Gabriel’s Gate and Big Ditch Brewing Company.
