Hiking the Tahoe East Shore Trail
Lake Tahoe is amazing and I had the chance to visit for the first time in February. There was some snow left from a big storm, but the weather was quite pleasant, sunny and in the 50s during my visit.
There are many trails around Lake Tahoe suitable for all skill levels. The Tahoe East Shore Trail just opened in 2019 and runs three miles from Tunnel Creek Cafe in Incline Village to Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park.
The trail features a 10-foot wide path and has around 150 feet of elevation gain. It’s great for hiking and also biking during the warmer months.
While the Tahoe East Shore Trail is on the northeast side, the plan is to one day have a trail that runs all the way around Lake Tahoe.
The first part of the trail had some snow and ice and there was a moderate climb. Soon, it opens up and you have incredible views of the lake.
The East Shore Trail features many designated viewpoints and beaches you can stop at to relax or enjoy a picnic.
Some of the popular stops are Hidden Beach, Memorial Point, Sand Harbor, Emerald Cove and Sunset Cove.
My favorite was Sunset Cove, which reminded me of The Baths at Virgin Gorda with the big boulders in the clear turquoise water. I sat on the beach and enjoyed lunch I had brought with me from Mountain High Sandwich Company.
For unforgettable views of Lake Tahoe, definitely go for a walk or bike ride on the Tahoe East Shore Trail. And check out more things to do in Lake Tahoe: Snowshoeing, hiking Monkey Rock and kayaking.
