SUMMIT One Vanderbilt and more in NYC
I have been fortunate enough to visit New York City several times, most recently in November. I’m always looking for new things to do there and had seen an incredible photo online of the Empire State Building. I had to know where that picture was taken!
It turned out, the view was from the SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, an amazing observation deck that had just recently opened.
One Vanderbilt, which is next to Grand Central Terminal, is 1,401 feet tall and among the 30 tallest buildings in the world. The SUMMIT experience is at the top and gives breathtaking views of Manhattan.
You have the Empire State Building to one side, the Chrysler Building to another and then views of Central Park.
SUMMIT isn’t just a regular observation deck though. It features different spaces that appeal to your senses. The room you first walk into is covered in mirrors, so you get incredible views of everything reflecting. It becomes even more impressive at night when the lights come on.
Another room is filled with balloons that you can play with and connect you to the space.
Finally, there is an outdoor space and glass floor elevator on the outside of the building that takes you to the highest point.
I reserved my ticket for a little before sunset to get views in the daylight, sunset and at night. I think that is definitely the way to go! The experience changes as the night goes on and you will want to go back and forth between the rooms for all the views.
Do not miss out on this amazing experience the next time you are in NYC!
I also caught a couple of shows during my visit. I saw “Jagged Little Pill” on Broadway, which took me back to my days listening to Alanis Morissette in the 90s, and attended a taping of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” I would recommend both!
It was fall in New York, so I had to check out Central Park and enjoy the leaves turning. I love fall, so I have a whole post dedicated to exploring Central Park.
The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree was being put up and decorated, but they still had the scaffolding around it, so I didn’t get a great view.
The ice skating rinks were open though at Rockefeller Center, Central Park and Bryant Park.
And I feel like any trip to NYC isn’t complete without a stop in Times Square. No matter the time of year, there is always plenty going on in NYC!
