Vermont fall foliage road trip
It has always been a dream of mine to see the fall foliage in New England. I was fortunate to be able to take a road in early October through Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine and it was everything I had dreamed of and more.
I flew into Burlington and made the 45-minute drive to Stowe, where I stayed for two nights. My first stop was grabbing some delicious apple cider and an apple cider donut at Cold Hollow Cider Mill.
After my treats, I headed over to the Gold Brook Covered Bridge, also known as Emily’s Bridge. The bridge dates to 1844 and is said to be haunted.
I finished my first day by catching sunset with views of the iconic Stowe Community Church. Put in directions to Salon Salon to get to this viewpoint. A yummy dinner at American Flatbread was the perfect end to the day.
On my second day in Stowe, I rode the Gondola SkyRide to the top of Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest mountain.
The views going up the mountain were incredible and the fall foliage was beautiful.
I enjoyed a waffle at the top of the mountain and took in the views. It was an unseasonably warm day in October with 80 degree temperatures!
After heading down the mountain, I also took the free Over Easy gondola to Spruce Peak for more great views.
I continued down the road to Smugglers’ Notch State Park. Smugglers’ Notch is a narrow pass in Vermont’s Green Mountains.
The drive along the windy road was lovely with tall cliffs, rock formations and canopies of fall colors.
Back in town, I took a walk down the Stowe Recreation Path, a 5.3-mile paved trail that runs from Stowe Village to Top Notch Resort.
The path criss-crosses the West Branch Little River with the Brookdale Bridge located at one end. It’s a wonderful trail to walk or bike along and enjoy being in nature.
When you’re ready for a treat, check out Red Barn Ice Cream Shop for a maple creemee, a true Vermont delight!
After my creemee, I wrapped up my time in Vermont with dinner at Stowe Cider, where they have a wide variety of ciders, including Cider Donut!
